What is a Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a health profession that is concerned with restoring wellness to people following injury, pain or disability.
A Chartered Physiotherapist has comprehensive knowledge of how the body works, along with specialist training in the diagnosis and treatment of muscle and joint pain.
Do I have to be referred by a doctor?
No, physiotherapists can assess and treat without referral by a doctor.
However most health insurers require a doctors referral before they authorise cover of fees, some insurers may only require a phone call.
How many visits will I need?
The number of treatments you require will vary depending on the injury and diagnosis.
After a thorough initial assessment, the physiotherapist will discuss the recommended treatment plan.
What should I wear to my appointment?
What you wear for your treatment appointment will depend on the area of your injury.
For some treatments you will be required to undress and in this instance a pair of shorts or modest underwear would be appropriate.
What do I need to bring?
If referred by your doctor we may require you to provide your previous medical or surgical history.
You may also wish to bring shorts and t-shirt for use during your treatment.
